MapInfo Format

We can supply our data in the MapInfo TAB format (or alternatively into the MIF/MID interchange format). TAB files (MapInfo Tables) are the native format of MapInfo. They actually consist of a number of files with extensions such as .TAB, .DAT and .MAP. All of these files need to be present and kept together for the table to work.

Each Table contains one layer from our database. We generally restrict ouselves to one feature type in a Table, thus Poly Lines, Polygons, and Points will be supplied as separate Tables. As we use MapInfo ourselves our database structure is already optimised for use in MapInfo software so there are no translation problems. If you are using older versions of MapInfo (such as 3.0 or 4.0) then you may have problems with complex polygons. MapInfo used to limit polygons to 32,000 vertices. Should you find that some of the data can not be displayed for this reason, then we suggest that you upgrade your software.
